We had a great Winter Fun Campout last weekend.  We didn't lose any boys or limbs to the cold.  We spent Friday and Saturday night in the Memorial Lodge cabin at Cmap Wanocksett.  We had about 13 boys and 6 adults attend the campout.  We launched rockets on the ice Saturday morning, which, despite the freezing wind, was the highlight of the weekend.  Pictures are posted in the Gallery (http://troop26pepperell.org/index.php?option=com_phocagallery&view=categories&Itemid=8) for all to enjoy.

We had a great hike up Mt. Monadnock on Saturday.  We met at the high school at 8am and headed out to the National Park.  There was a drizzly rain that we decided would not deter us, as long as we were prepared and had the proper clothing and supplies.  We headed up and it begin to rain a little harder as we neared the tree line.  Most of us put on our rain pants and we all continued with the climb.  We all made the summit, despite the approximately 40 mph wind and very limited visibility.  We decided to descend back into the trees in order to eat our lunch.  In all, the hike took exactly 4 hours.  You can find a few pictures in the Gallery, more to follow...

We had a great half-day fishing trip with Yankee Fleet out of Gloucester last Thursday :)  We had 3 adults and 7 who were able to attend.  The fishing was OK, nothing spectacular, but it looked like everyone had fun.  I think we should try again next year and try a little earlier in the summer.  We may try a weekend trip instead of a weekday, so that hopefully more boys can attend.  We will need to plan ahead and talk about ti at the December planning meeting.

The can duty roster has been updated (September to December, published date 2 Sep 09).  Please make sure you contact Mr. Dalton if you cannot make your assigned duty.  I will be assigning a Scoutmaster and a scout to manage the can duty attendence and develop a plan to improve the scheduling and participation.

Welcome to the new Troop 26 Pepperell website!

I am excited to have finally released the new site in order to improve communication within the Troop and to provide easier access to information by the Scouts and their parents.  As time goes on, we will add new features and improve the existing ones.  If you have any ideas or would like to help out, please let me know ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).  Remember you can reach this site through http://www.pepperellbsa.org by clicking on the Troop numerals (26), or directly at http://troop26.pepperellbsa.org.

I am also excited about the upcoming fall season where we will begin meeting again and attend camping and hiking events.  Speaking of this, we will be having the yearly planning meeting with the Scout Leadership next week to generate detailed plans for the fall and to plan ahead for the late winter and spring.  I will attend at some point to add a menu item on the left of this page for you to go and submit suggestions.  It may not be available for this meeting, but it will become useful as time goes on.

We have just returned from a fantastic week at summer camp.  The boys were very productive, completing about 37 merit badges and getting partials for about a dozen more.  The weather was great and we had 6 Scouts start and complete the gruelling mile swim.

Once again, welcome and I look forward to the upcoming season :)

Mr. Ernst
